Dynamic Modelling and Simulation of a Multistage Flash Desalination System

As the leading thermal desalination method, multistage flash (MSF) plays an important role in obtaining freshwater. Its dynamic modeling and performance prediction are quite for optimal control, real-time operation, maintenance, fault diagnosis of MSF plants. In this study, a detailed mathematical model system, based on first principle its treatment strategy, was established to obtain transient change quickly. Firstly, whole system divided into four parts, which brine heat exchanger, flashing stage room, mixed split modulate, physical parameter modulate. Secondly, mass, energy, momentum conservation laws, correlation equations were formulated then put together simultaneous solution. Next, with model, brine-recirculation (BR)-MSF plant 16-stage chambers simulated compared validation. Finally, validated solution simulation analysis carried out respond feed seawater temperature, concentration, recycle stream mass flow rate, steam temperature. The response curves TBT (top temperature), BBT (bottom temperature at previous stages, distillate rate stages obtained, specifically reflect characteristics system. presented can provide better operation control achieve lower operational cost more stable freshwater quality.
